Luis Suarez

If there’s one player who currently spells the word ‘Gold’ for any media outlet, it’s Uruguay and Liverpool starlet Luis Suarez. Whether it’s due to his nail-biting performances for both club and country or for his arm-biting nature, whatever the player does seems to work wonders and hit all of the necessary headlines.

During the summer of 2013, Suarez was involved in a rather long transfer saga where Arsenal showed their interest in the player and proceeded to bid for him, a bid which was later rejected by Liverpool. During said saga, Suarez revealed in an interview that he had become disillusioned with life in England and would have considered any transfer which would have made him move country. His claim that foreign players are far more scrutinized in England than local ones did have a sense of reality in it after seeing what the English media had done to Mario Balotelli a year before.

However, unlike Balotelli, Suarez chose to stick with the club who had in turn stuck with him during the tough times, and boy oh boy has he delivered. Currently the top scorer in the Premier League, the player has been scoring goal after goal, some of which were absolute crackers, as well as forming a highly deadly alliance with club team-mate Daniel Sturridge.

The Uruguayan, who is currently in red hot form, has also been regarded as one of the best strikers in Europe by many. That sort of claim will automatically increase the odds of his national side doing well in Brazil, especially when one considers that the player’s partners in crime in attack will be Edinson Cavani and Diego Forlan. Should the controversial yet brilliant striker proceed to keep the same form on during the World Cup, fans worldwide should be expecting the unexpected from such a player, whether it’s with an incredible goal from the halfway line, or whether it’s denying an opposition goal using his hands (just ask Ghana fans about their painful World Cup 2010 exit).
