Road to World Cup 2014
The world’s biggest football tournament is here once again, and whilst it brings a surplus of varied predictions, ridiculous rumours and frantic bookies along with it, the feelings of excitement and passion for the game also resurface in every football fan.
The 20th edition of the tournament will be held in Brazil, home to a number of legendary squads and the nation holding the record number of World Cup victories with five cups having been raised by the Sele‹o Brasileira. There are still some concerns due to the recent Sao Paolo stadium collapse, which included the death of two on-site workers, nevertheless, FIFA along with the Brazilian FA, keep reassuring the world that all is going as planned.
The weather and climate in Brazil tend to vary depending on the region where the match is held. A typical June or July night may still be considered as cold down south in Curitiba and Porto Alegre, whilst in the northern regions, matches will be held in rather scorching heat. Certain matches will also begin at 1pm local time, which is rather questionable as well as detrimental to players and fans alike. It’s safe to say that South American teams will hold quite an advantage when their familiarity with such a climate is taken into account.
For true football fans worldwide, this will be a month and a half of pure entertainment, starting from the opening ceremony in Sao Paolo’s Arena Corinthians all the way to the final which will take place in Rio De Janeiro’s Estadio Do Maracana. With so many uncertainties for the future, including the nation’s turbulent state with current affairs during the Russia 2018 as well as the confusing reports that the Qatar 2022 World Cup may take place in winter, this could be one of the last great World Cups the world will enjoy for a long time. That makes for an even better excuse not to miss out on this upcoming legendary tournament.
