With just a few months to go until this year’s World Cup begins in Brazil, the FIFA Quality Programme is currently busy installing the technology across the 12 stadiums. Installation and testing of the goal-line technology system will be the Quality Programme’s main task between now and June, hoping to make sure that the process and everything involved will be tried and tested successfully by the time the tournament commences.

goal controlGerman company GoalControl GmbH will be the provider for the goal-line technology, having had a very successful try-out during the 2013 Confederations Cup in the same country. FIFA had the following to say: ”While there were no goal-line incidents in which the technology was required to determine whether a goal had been scored, the system met all necessary FIFA requirements and indicated every one of the 68 goals correctly. Importantly, there was also a high-level of satisfaction reported by match officials.”

”The use of GoalControl-4D in Morocco and Brazil will be subject to a final installation test at each stadium, which is a standard procedure as part of the official certification process defined in the GLT Testing Manual.”

A FIFA-accredited test institute will then carry out the necessary tests to ensure that they reach the level required by the laws of the sport. The 2014 World Cup will be the first of its kind to offer match officials support through goal-line technology, with GoalControl also wrapping up a deal which would see the same technology being used at the 2014 Club World Cup.
