Whilst injury has already played a huge part in deciding on which players shall be showcasing their talents this summer in Brazil, other notable footballers have recently not made the cut for their national team due to lack of form, match fitness or immense compatriot competition.

When Fiorentina announced their successful capture of then Bayern Munich striker Mario Gomez, the transfer was lauded by pundits everywhere with the Bavarian club and Guardiola being questioned due to their lack of strikers. Since then, Gomez has made only 9 appearances for Fiorentina after two lengthy injuries which encompassed the majority of the Serie A season.

This has led to Germany head coach Joachim Loew opting for a much larger list of midfielders over strikers, taking up only two non-midfield forwards which are Miroslav Klose and Kevin Volland, hence the dropping of the Fiorentina striker.

In the same league, AC Milan Brazilian duo Kaka and Robinho have both recently learned that they will not be taking part in this summer’s tournament, much to Pele’s disdain. whilst Robinho’s form has been decreasing ever since his Manchester City days, it is rather questionable that a player of Kaka’s calibre and experience will not be handy for Brazil.

Head Coach Scolari’s issue was probably down to the vast array of talent available in the same position. Chelsea trio Willian, Oscar and Ramires all got the nod, as well as Inter‘s Hernanes and Manchester City’s Fernandinho, which is probably the reason why Scolari opted to leave Kaka out of his plans. Although the players mentioned do lack experience, they have plenty of talent ready to be utilised in any manner by the head coach, adding to the positivity of nurturing the youngest players with world class tournament experience.

Another player, recently mentioned in one of our articles, which will not be in Brazil due to compatriot competition is Carlos Tevez, who has seen his World Cup spot blown apart due to Aguero, Lavezzi and Higuain’s form and Messi’s legendary untouchable status. All of the names mentioned above will cause a minor heartbreak in several football fans, as trademark football players should go hand in hand with tournaments of such magnitude.

Stay tuned as we shall uncover further info as soon as further World Cup squads are announced.
