With the 2014 World Cup looming ever so closely, the situation regarding Carlos Tevez’s national squad exclusion is becoming even more mysterious as more reports are released.

Up until a few weeks ago, the issue of Tevez not being called up to the national squad was but a background issue. Recently however, the issue is regularly being brought forward by Juventus coaches and chiefs as well as by some of the player’s own team-mates.

Whilst competition in the attacking positions of the national setup is intense, with players such as Lionel Messi, Gonzalo Higuain, Sergio Aguero and Ezeqiel Lavezzi all in contention, Juventus director of sports Giuseppe Marotta has suggested that Tevez has regularly been ignored mainly due to his poor relationship with fellow compatriot Messi.

Although Messi has been known to throw fits should things not go his way (just ask Guardiola or Ibrahimovic), all of the other players in contention have been just as good, if not better, than the Juventus striker. Although Tevez is having a stellar season with Juventus, so are all of the other players with their respective clubs, meaning that Argentina head coach Alejandro Sabella could simply be picking his favourite strikers out of an impressive list of options.

Or, one could put his controversy cap on and assume that Sabella is giving in to the little Argentine’s pettiness behind the curtains, preferring not to disrupt one of the best players on the planet’s aura during the competition.

Needless to say, speculation is never healthy, yet when one looks at the season Tevez is having with Juventus, as well as the fact that this would be the last World Cup the player could enjoy during his peak, one would question his exclusion, at least as a super sub.
